Low Oil Pressure – Why It’s Important

most common causes of low oil pressure

Fault Codes:

  • CID: 100-1 – Engine Oil Pressure: Low – most severe (3)
  • E360 (3) – Engine Oil Pressure: Low – most severe (3)

The engine oil pressure is below the map-based trip point, and the delay time has expired. The code is logged. The engine is shut down. The ECM may derate the engine or shut down the engine.

  • Codes
  • Engine oil level
  • Oil leaks
  • Oil aeration
  • Oil pressure sensor
  • Oil viscosity/Fuel dilution
  • Contaminated engine oil
  • Excessive heat
  • Oil pump
  • Oil inlet strainer
  • Oil pressure regulator valves
  • Oil suction system
  • Inlet strainer
  • Regulator and check valve
  • Worn engine components

Caterpillar Lubrication Systems

CAT Lubrication System

  • Caterpillar lubrication systems are specifically designed to provide thorough lubrication to your machine’s engine and vital components.
  • The basic lubrication system comprises an oil pump, relief valve, oil cooler, oil filter, bypass valves, oil pressure gauge, and oil pan.
  • The oil pump is used to force engine oil through the lubrication system, and the pressure is generated by the resistance that the oil must overcome to reach the lubricated components.

Low oil pressure indicates something is wrong, and not enough lubricant is moving through the system to protect your engine adequately. A lack of lubrication can lead to metal-on-metal contact and result in premature component wear or engine failure. An engine can fail in a matter of hours or minutes, depending on the severity of the situation.

Prevent Costly Repairs

CAT EngineMany Engine Failures Are Preventable

Repairing the concern promptly BEFORE FAILURE may save you from costly engine repairs, and often required rebuilds.

Your Caterpillar equipment comes fitted with warning indicators, and message alerts to promptly warn the operator of any fault codes, or concerns. Always be aware of your machines operating conditions.

IN THE EVENT OF A LOW OIL PRESSURE CONCERN – SHUTDOWN THE MACHINE IMMEDIATELY! BE PROACTIVE! KEEP YOUR OWNING AND OPERATING COSTS DOWN BY REPAIRING YOUR MACHINE QUICKLY

PROTECT YOUR EQUIPMENT FROM UNNECESSARY FAILURE
